Recommendation 22

22

Community education, involving influential leaders, effectively challenges FGM beliefs and raises awareness.

Conclusion
Education among communities can be an effective tool in challenging the beliefs that fuel FGM and in raising awareness of the serious health impacts of FGM. The effectiveness of these campaigns is likely to be increased when influential people within the community, such as religious leaders, are included in education and prevention efforts.
