The government's response
Summary written by Accountability Index from the government's response. It is not the government's own words.
The Government welcomes the Report and says it is committed to working with the Scottish Government to help the sector grow, while setting out where it does not envisage or believe in change on several recommendations.
- On measuring the sector, DCMS "welcomes the recommendation" and will work with the Scottish Government and other Devolved Administrations; "initial discussions are underway" with a view to publishing an assessment alongside the December 2016 Creative Industries Economic Estimates.
- On a National Lottery distributor for video games, the Government says "We do not envisage the creation of a new National Lottery Distributor specifically for the video games sector", and notes the BFI's 2017 to 2022 strategy, with a formal consultation in Summer 2016.
- On creative tax reliefs, it says "at present the government believes the rate of relief should be consistent across all firms and all regions of the United Kingdom", citing simplicity and possible confusion if rates varied.
- On the Creative Industries Council, it has "considered carefully" but believes there are "good reasons not to extend" its remit to be UK-wide, while welcoming the Scottish Government's and Creative Scotland's participation in discussions.
