The government's response
Summary written by Accountability Index from the government's response. It is not the government's own words.
The Government considers that the four existing visa categories comprise "an excellent post-study work offer" and has no plans to reintroduce a post-study work scheme or create a Scotland-specific visa.
- On a Scotland-only visa, it says immigration policy is reserved and it does "not consider a Scotland-specific visa scheme to be in the best interests of the integrity of the immigration system".
- It has "no plans to commission the MAC to review" Tier 4 to Tier 2 transfer provisions again, and the Tier 2 minimum salary threshold of £20,800 for new entrants "will remain".
- It notes the Committee's comments on Scotland's demography and "look[s] forward to seeing further details about the inquiry" "in due course".
- It commits to continue working with the education sector and the Scottish Government to promote the offer, and "remain[s] willing to engage in discussions" with the Scottish Government on this.
