Building on the work of the UK Shipbuilding Skills Taskforce, the Ministry of Defence should commission regular research to develop and keep up to date its understanding of the current and future skills profile of the shipbuilding workforce, and the skills needed by the shipbuilding sector. Given education and skills are devolved matters, we equally encourage the Scottish Government to develop its understanding of the skills profile required in the shipbuilding sector. This will help both Governments, education sectors and the shipbuilding industry to anticipate and respond to the needs of Scottish yards.
