English Votes for English Laws inquiry

Status: Closed Opened: 12 Jul 2016 Closed: 6 Sep 2016
Inquiry scopeIn 2015, the Committee took evidence on the Government's proposals to amend the House of Commons' Standing Orders to accommodate English Votes for English Laws (EVEL). Now that these proposals have been passed by the House for a number of months, the Committee will hold a one-off evidence session to follow up on how effectively EVEL has been implemented. The Committee will hear from constitutional experts and the Leader of the House of Commons to scrutinise whether and how EVEL has affected law making in the UK and its actual impact on the way that the Scottish public and politicians can (and do) engage with UK law-making.
