In its response to this report, the government should set out a clear, cross-departmental strategy for ensuring a secure and sustainable domestic talent pipeline in the key scientific and technological capabilities it has identified as critical to the UK’s future prosperity and security. This should include an assessment of current and projected skills needs, and should set out how the government will determine and maintain an appropriate balance between domestic and international talent in these areas, ensuring that reliance on overseas recruitment does not undermine the development of domestic capability.
