HM Government
Acknowledged
The Government is committed to transparency in its efforts to improve the criminal justice system’s response to rape, as highlighted by the publication of six-monthly progress updates and quarterly CJS delivery data dashboards, which bring data together from across the criminal justice system. The Government recognises that the ability to link data across criminal justice agencies would lead to agencies being able to track individual cases more accurately across the system; identify where processes are leading to delays and determine how these delays could be avoided. We are exploring potential ways to do this, including how to link data across criminal justice system agencies at a local level, for example, by building on work undertaken by Avon and Somerset Police and CPS South West, who have produced a proof-of-concept tool to present detailed historical data on the progression of cases across criminal justice system. More work is required to assess whether and how this proof-of-concept tool could be made automated and able to present live data (which it currently does not). Ministers representing the criminal justice agencies—the Home Secretary, Attorney General and Lord Chancellor—commit to write with further detail about the efforts to improve the connectedness of data across the criminal justice system.
