Recommendation 11
11
Acknowledged
Urge more social media providers to participate in preventing trafficking and saving lives.
Conclusion
We welcome the joint action plan between the National Crime Agency and major social media companies to hinder organised immigration crime and urge the Government to persuade more social media providers to participate in action aimed at preventing trafficking and saving lives, though given the previous experience of the Committee in securing assurances from social media companies, the Government will have to keep on their case relentlessly. This consideration will have to be dealt with in the Online Harms Bill currently before Parliament. (Paragraph 44) New measures to combat crossings
Government Response Summary
The government highlights that the NCA is working closely with social media companies and has removed over 1,600 posts related to organised immigration crime, committing to further increasing its impact.

Acknowledged
The NCA welcomes the Committee’s support for the joint action plan. We are working closely with social media companies to prevent their platforms being exploited to recruit, communicate, and advertise organised immigration crime. The action plan announced in December has resulted in more than 1,600 posts, pages or accounts advertising organised immigration crime services being removed from platforms. However, the NCA recognises that there is more to be done and we are committed to further increasing our impact against the threat.
