The government's response
Summary written by Accountability Index from the government's response. It is not the government's own words.
The government welcomes the Committee's scrutiny and says it remains "fully committed to implementing and completing the PHSO's recommendations", while declining some specific requests, such as an audit of NICE guideline implementation and a new bespoke prevalence survey.
- On training, it says the GMC wrote to every UK medical school in April 2019 and will share a summary of the responses with the Committee. It also says the Joint Academy Training Forum will "report on how this learning can be implemented".
- On adult services, it "fully acknowledge[s]" that parity with child and adolescent services has not yet been achieved. It sets out pilot sites funded across 2019/20 and 2020/21, and says guidance on service models is "due for publication over the summer".
- On prevalence, it shares the Committee's view that information needs improving, but prefers the 2019 Health Survey England to a new bespoke survey, which it will "keep under review".
- The PHSO Delivery Group "will remain in place" until the Chairs are content that all recommendations are implemented. The government is "committed to bringing forward" the Health Service Safety Investigations Bill "as soon as parliamentary time allows".
