The government's response

Summary written by Accountability Index from the government's response. It is not the government's own words.

The government's response to the Committee's report on Yemen gives a mixed position, marked 'Agree', 'Partially agree' or 'Disagree' against individual recommendations, and it states it is not opposing calls for an international independent investigation.

  • On humanitarian funding and an international donor conference, it 'partially' agrees. It will work with the UN and other donors to 'consider when the optimal time for an international donor conference would be'.
  • On arms exports to Saudi Arabia, it disagrees that there is evidence of an indiscriminate bombing campaign and says it assesses the 'clear risk' test 'has not been met'. It adds that 'extant licences' are compliant with the UK's export licensing criteria.
  • On explosive weapons in populated areas, it disagrees, stating there is 'no blanket prohibition' in IHL and that any such prohibition cannot be said to be an 'international norm'.
  • On recovery planning it agrees. It will 'continue to work closely with all parties', and the Gulf Cooperation Council and Yemeni government have proposed a further workshop 'just after Ramadan'.
