The government's response
Summary written by Accountability Index from the government's response. It is not the government's own words.
The government welcomes the report, says many of its recommendations "align with the Government's existing reform programme", and agrees with some while declining or deferring others.
- On ground rents, the government agrees with the Committee on removing any financial value from ground rents on newly established leases, and has "decided to legislate" to do so.
- It disagrees with the Committee's suggestion of an exemption for mixed-use developments, stating it "does not believe an exemption is needed".
- It does not believe now is the time for a review of redress routes against conveyancing solicitors or a new ADR scheme, citing the risk of confusion and overlapping jurisdictions.
- On permission fees, major works and standardised service charge forms, it will consider the Committee's recommendations alongside the Lord Best working group's report and "consult as necessary".
What the committee recommended
