Recommendation 29

29 Acknowledged

Long-Term Housing Strategy publication remains delayed, leaving the housing sector without a cohesive plan.

Conclusion
The housing sector is eagerly awaiting the Government’s Long-Term Housing Strategy, which it first announced in July 2024. Originally, this was to be published alongside the Spending Review in spring 2025. The continuing lack of a cohesive plan to deliver 1.5 million new homes has left the sector in the dark. We are also deeply disappointed that the Government has been unwilling to engage with us on the development of the Strategy, or provide any updates on its delayed publication, other than to tell us that it will be published “later this year”. (Conclusion, Paragraph 140)
Government Response Summary
The Government will publish a Long-Term Housing Strategy shortly, which will bring together the significant programme of reform that the Government has undertaken since taking office in July 2024.

69. The Government will publish a Long-Term Housing Strategy shortly, which will bring together the significant programme of reform that the Government has undertaken since taking office in July 2024. This includes the three priority areas that form part of our strategy to delivering 1.5 million new homes – fixing the foundations of our development sector, including through ambitious planning reform; transforming the housebuilding industry through investment in skills and supporting a greater diversity of developers to build at scale; and building a new generation of social and affordable homes.
