Recommendation 11
11
Paragraph: 77
We support enhancing public involvement with Local Plans.
Conclusion
We support enhancing public involvement with Local Plans. However, figures cited by the Minister suggest that far more people are involved at the point when individual planning applications are considered than at the local plan stage, and this was backed up by the evidence we have received. We also fear that people will resort to legal measures if they cannot comment upon and therefore influence an individual planning proposal. Therefore, all individuals must still be able to comment and influence upon all individual planning proposals.

HM Government
Acknowledged
26. The Government agrees with the Committee’s support for ensuring individuals can comment on all individual planning proposals. We will retain this ability in the reformed system. 27. Digital reforms will make it easier for people to be aware of and comment on proposals in their areas. The changes to the system will give more people the opportunity to shape their community – through new digital ways of engaging with local plans and planning applications, as well as new policy tools, such as design codes that set clear design standards for development and have legal force.
