The government's response
Summary written by Accountability Index from the government's response. It is not the government's own words.
The Government's response to the Committee's report on F-gas emissions agrees on promoting low GWP inhalers, declines to publish detailed enforcement plans, and sets out preparations for both staying in and leaving the EU F-gas system.
- On inhalers, the Government "agrees that low GWP inhalers should be promoted within the NHS". On increasing the recycling rate for metered dose inhalers it says only that it "will discuss with industry" how this can be done.
- On heat pumps and the Greening Government Commitments, it will "continue to work with industry" on barriers to low GWP refrigerants, and will "explore" early targets for phasing out products containing high GWP F-gases.
- On enforcement, it states that publishing detailed plans for monitoring non-compliance "would be inappropriate" because this could make the Regulation harder to enforce.
- On leaving the EU, it is "exploring all options including staying in the EU system" after the implementation period. It "intends to maintain the current pace of HFC phase down" regardless, and Defra is developing a separate UK system as a possibility.
