Recommendation 24
24
Accepted
Paragraph: 178
Government delay in shore power policy for UK ports is unwelcome during grid connection challenges.
Conclusion
It is regrettable that the Government has changed course on its policy on the provision of shore power to UK ports. In a period where grid connections are currently at a premium and demand for electricity supply is increasing, the delay in determining policy on how to provide power to the zero-emission ports of the future is unwelcome.
Government Response Summary
The government accepts the conclusion and is considering options for a call for evidence, alongside its domestic maritime decarbonisation plan, to understand existing clean energy infrastructure at ports and enable their decarbonisation, including timely grid connection upgrades.

HM Government
Accepted
The Government accepts this recommendation. The Government is considering options on a call for evidence alongside its plan for the decarbonising the domestic maritime sector. It is important to understand and collate evidence on what clean energy infrastructure currently exists at ports and how the government can enable ports to decarbonise their operations. This will help inform how ports can enable shipping to decarbonise through the introduction of further clean energy infrastructure, including the importance of timely grid connection upgrades to the sector.
