Recommendation 8

Preventing and reducing waste at all stages in the food chain should be a central component of the Government’s food strategy, as this is a quick-win compared to other actions to maintain food security in the face of environmental change. The Government should publish a strategy for preventing and reducing waste in the food system. This should include targets and timescales, not just for reducing wastage of food itself but also for reducing the waste of resources that go into producing food, such as fertiliser and water.
