There are, however, significant gaps in the Strategy.

Conclusion
There are, however, significant gaps in the Strategy. It is in essence an energy supply strategy, with much of its focus on electricity generation and oil and gas supply. To deliver genuine energy security, the strategy should have placed far greater emphasis on energy saving measures. Transport should also have been included.

HM Government Accepted
The Government agrees that energy efficiency is a crucial part of our energy security strategy. That is why the British Energy Security Strategy includes a range of measures to improve energy efficiency in homes, businesses, and public buildings. We have set a target to reduce the UK’s final energy consumption from buildings and industry by 15% by 2030, and we are investing £6.6 billion this Parliament to help achieve this target. This funding will support a range of energy efficiency measures, including insulation, heat pumps, and smart meters. We are also working to improve the energy efficiency of transport. We are investing in electric vehicles, public transport, and cycling and walking infrastructure. These measures will help to reduce our reliance on oil and improve our energy security.
