National Audit Office’s report on packaging recycling obligations inquiry

Status: Closed Opened: 4 Sep 2018 Closed: 4 Sep 2018
Inquiry scopeFollowing the publication of the NAO’s report on Packaging Recycling Obligations, which found significant gaps in the Government’s oversight and enforcement of the system, the Environmental Audit Committee is holding a one-off session with key stakeholders, the Minister and the regulators of the system. The session will explore what the Packaging Recycling Obligations have achieved, their position in the wider recycling policy landscape and how they could be reformed in light of the NAO’s findings. Witnesses include the representatives from the Government’s Advisory Committee on Packaging, the Local Authority Recycling Advisory Committee, a large waste management company and the UK’s largest packaging recycling compliance scheme.
