The government says it shares the Committee's desire for greater action and pace, and points to its commitment to bring forward the first Environment Bill in over 20 years.

On putting the Plan on a statutory basis, the government "note[s]" the recommendation and cites the Prime Minister's announcement of the first Environment Bill in over 20 years.
On an independent oversight body, it plans a "new, world leading independent statutory body" and is analysing consultation responses to determine proposals for draft legislation.
