Inquiry scope (the committee's words)
The Environmental Audit Committee launch an inquiry into the domestic implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The 17 SDGs were adopted by the General Assembly on 25 September 2015. The SDGs cut across all areas of Government – from ending poverty and achieving gender equality through to tackling climate change and using resources sustainably.

It is not the government's own words.The government states it is "fully committed to promoting and implementing the Goals", intends to do so by embedding them in Single Departmental Plans, and does not accept the call for a separate independent advisor.
- On reporting, the government says the UK "will put itself forward for a VNR in 2019", and that it "supports" the Voluntary National Review process.
- On an independent advisor, the government states it "does not believe that an additional independent advisor is required" and will use existing mechanisms, citing Single Departmental Plans.
- On business league tables, it "sees value" in them "where there is a convincing and specific rationale", but does not believe research "should necessarily be undertaken by Government". It has granted funds for a consultation on an SDG Index.
- On the ONS, the government says it is independent and "should respond directly to the Committee" on its own responsibilities. It states that updated Single Departmental Plans are intended to be available "later this year".
