Inquiry scope
Building on the evidence received in the previous Committee’s inquiry on Securing the domestic supply chain , the Committee will hold a one-off session on Industrial Strategy for Clean Power . The inquiry will explore the areas within the sector where UK manufacturers have the greatest potential to make an impact, as well as how developing a more localized supply chain could contribute to achieving the goal of a secure, decarbonized electricity sector by 2035. The Committee will invite two stakeholder panels to consider the policy changes needed to deliver the industrial strategy for clean power. The Committee would welcome written submissions on the following questions by Friday 14th February. Written evidence sent to the Domestic supply chain inquiry last year will be used for this session, and those who sent such evidence should only write if there are significant differences to what was previously submitted. For those who may not have contributed to the previous inquiry, the Committee would be more interested in issues that have arisen since the advent of the new Government rather than long standing issues that have been well covered by the previous inquiry. How can UK plc capture its fair share of the economic potential of emerging or less developed energy technologies? What more can the Government do to encourage greater domestic supply chain investment in the energy industry by 2035, including through the Contracts for Difference scheme? Does the UK have the supply chain capacity to deliver the required energy infrastructure by 2035, including an expanded electricity network? To what extent would growing the domestic supply chain bolster UK energy security? What are the key concerns with respect to the availability of raw materials in the supply chain and how might those be addressed?Oral evidence sessions
