The government's response
Summary written by Accountability Index from the government's response. It is not the government's own words.
The government welcomes the Committee's conclusion that integration is the right direction of travel, and says the NHS long-term plan, due in the autumn, will set out the practical next steps.
- On legislation, it accepts that any legislative proposals should be led by the health and care community, and "will consider amending the legislation" where the NHS identifies "a clear need" to do so.
- On funding, it points to a five-year NHS settlement and expects the long-term plan to set out how the new money will be used for transformation. It "will also consider proposals" from the NHS for a multi-year capital plan.
- On Integrated Care Providers, the ICP Contract "will not be used before public consultation is concluded". Any introduction would be "incremental and controlled", if the decision is made to support the contract following consultation.
- On a survey of frontline staff, NHS England "will consider" the Committee's suggestion in light of existing Staff Survey data and the cost of a separate survey.
