Inquiry scope
In the latest of a series of topical evidence sessions, the Committee will examine the pay review process and calculations made by the NHS Pay Review Body (PRB). The NHS PRB gives independent advice to Government on pay award levels for health care staff employed by the NHS. Questions over the pay review body process were raised with Committee members in a session in December that examined preparations to provide a safe level of emergency cover during strikes by ambulance workers. MPs heard criticisms that the process was not fit for purpose and delayed money reaching people’s pockets. MPs are likely to explore the extent to which the pay review process can adapt to changes to the economic outlook, for example inflationary pressures, the impact of any budgetary constraints on pay offers and the timetable for the next 2023-24 pay review.Oral evidence sessions
