Select Committee · Health and Social Care Committee
Ambulance delays and strikes
Status: Closed
Opened: 15 Dec 2022
Closed: 6 Feb 2023
Inquiry scope
NHS England, ambulance services and paramedics will face questions about what is being done to provide a safe level of emergency cover to the public during strike action. The topical session is being held on the eve of the first planned strike expected to involve up to 10,000 ambulance workers with a representative of the GMB also called to give evidence. MPs are expected to press for more information following a statement by a Health Minister that it was ‘likely’ that the most serious and life-threatening calls, categories 1 and 2, would be responded to. The Committee will also examine the ambulance service response times generally, what is being done to tackle handover delays and whether the use of targets is an effective way to measure performance.Oral evidence sessions
